A community rooted in heritage, growing in unity
Shri Kantha Jilla Modi Samaj (SKJMS) is a registered community organisation serving the Modi community of the Kantha region of North Gujarat — the historic riverbank belt that has been home to our families for generations. Our roots as the Patanwala Modi community stretch back well over a century, with organised gatherings at Modhera that brought together villages from across the region.
After decades of community effort, elders from over 100 villages came together in the 1960s to revive the samaj. That effort culminated in the formal establishment of Shri Kantha Jilla Modi Samaj in November 1975 (Vikram Samvat 2031), with seven dedicated pioneers laying the foundation for what would become one of the most organised Modi community bodies in North Gujarat.
Today, SKJMS represents over 2,500 families and 10,000+ individuals across 22 divisions. Our work spans religious programs, educational support, matrimonial initiatives, social welfare, and cultural preservation — all anchored in our devotion to Shri Modheshwari Mata, our Kuldevi.
Our principal community centre — Shri Modheshwari Sankul in Pethapur, Gandhinagar — serves as the hub for community events, religious gatherings, cultural celebrations, and social programs throughout the year.

શ્રી કાંઠા જિલ્લા મોદી સમાજનો ભવ્ય ઇતિહાસ
૧૪૦ વર્ષ જૂના ઐતિહાસિક વારસાની ગૌરવગાથા
ઉદ્ભવ અને ઐતિહાસિક પૃષ્ઠભૂમિ
આજથી લગભગ ૧૪૦ વર્ષપહેલાં, સમગ્ર ગુજરાતના મોદી સમાજનું એક વિશાળ અને સંગઠિત માળખું ‘પંચ’ તરીકે ઓળખાતું હતું. તે સમયે મોઢેરા મુકામે મળેલ સમાજની ઐતિહાસિક બેઠકમાં વાહનવ્યવહારની મર્યાદાઓ અને ભૌગોલિક અંતરને ધ્યાનમાં રાખીને, સર્વાનુમતે બે વિભાગમાં વહેંચવાનો નિર્ણય લેવામાં આવ્યો. મહેસાણાથી પશ્ચિમ દિશાનો વિસ્તાર ‘પાટણવાળા મોદી સમાજ’ અને પૂર્વ દિશાનો વિસ્તાર ‘શ્રી કાંઠા જિલ્લા મોદી સમાજ’ તરીકે અસ્તિત્વમાં આવ્યો.
પ્રારંભિક માળખું અને પંચ પ્રથા
શરૂઆતના તબક્કામાં સમાજને ૧૫ મુખ્ય વિભાગોમાં વહેંચવામાં આવ્યો — હિંમતનગર, નવગામ, પેથાપુર, પેઢામલી, વિજાપુર, માણસા, આગલોડ, લાડોલ, નારદીપુર, ઈલોલ, પ્રાંતિજ, સાદરા, વિસનગર, મહેસાણા અને સોજા-જામળા. આ પંચ પ્રથા દ્વારા સામાજિક કુરિવાજો દૂર કરવા, નીતિ-નિયમો બનાવવા અને પ્રશ્નોનું સુખદ નિરાકરણ લાવવાનું ભગીરથ કાર્ય ૧૧.૫ વર્ષ સુધી અવિરત ચાલ્યું.
સમાજનું પુનર્ગઠન અને નવી દિશા
ઈ.સ. ૧૯૪૬ પછી અમુક કારણોસર પંચ પ્રથા નિષ્ક્રિય બની. પરંતુ વિક્રમ સંવત ૨૦૨૨ પછી સમાજના ૧૦૦ થી વધુ સક્રિય સભ્યોએ બહુચરાજી અને ખેડબ્રહ્મા ખાતે બેઠકો યોજીને સમાજને પુનઃ સંગઠિત કરવાનું બીડું ઝડપ્યું. દરેક ગામને પ્રતિનિધિત્વ આપવાનો નિર્ણય લેવાયો અને સમાજમાં નવો પ્રાણ ફૂંકાયો.
શ્રી કાંઠા જિલ્લા મોદી સમાજની વિધિવત સ્થાપના
સમાજના અગ્રણીઓની અથાક મહેનત અને ઘરે-ઘરે જઈ કરેલા વ્યક્તિગત સંપર્કના પરિણામે, નવેમ્બર ૧૯૭૫ (વિક્રમ સંવત ૨૦૩૧) માં સમાજની વિધિવત સ્થાપના થઈ. આ સ્થાપનામાં સાત પ્રણેતા સભ્યોનું માર્ગદર્શન અમૂલ્ય રહ્યું.
સ્થાપના સમયે નેતૃત્વ ‘મહામંત્રી’ના હોદ્દા દ્વારા થતું. શ્રી રામલાલ વિઠ્ઠલદાસ મોદી (પ્રથમ), ડૉ. અંબાલાલ નાથાલાલ મોદી (દ્વિતીય) અને શ્રી નટવરલાલ અમથારામ મોદી (તૃતીય) — ત્રણેએ પ્રારંભિક વર્ષોમાં ઉત્કૃષ્ટ સેવા આપી.
ટ્રસ્ટની સ્થાપના અને વિકાસયાત્રા
ઈ.સ. ૧૯૮૫માં ચેરીટી કમિશ્નરશ્રીની મંજૂરી મેળવીને ‘શ્રી કાંઠા જિલ્લા મોદી સમાજ ટ્રસ્ટ’ની સ્થાપના કરવામાં આવી. ટ્રસ્ટ ફંડ એકત્ર કરી સમાજ વિકાસના કામોને ગતિ આપી. અનેક દાતાઓ, વડીલો અને યુવા કાર્યકરોના સહિયારા પ્રયાસોથી સમાજે શૈક્ષણિક, સામાજિક અને માળખાકીય વિકાસમાં અનેક સિદ્ધિઓ હાંસલ કરી છે.
ભવિષ્યમાં પણ સમાજ ઉત્તરોત્તર પ્રગતિના શિખરો સર કરતો રહે — તેવી મોઢેશ્વરી માતાને પ્રાર્થના.

Shri Modheshwari Mata, our Kuldevi
Shri Modheshwari Mata is the revered Kuldevi (patron deity) of the Modi community. Her ancient temple, located in Modhera, Gujarat, stands as a sacred symbol of our community's identity, faith, and cultural heritage.
The Mata's divine presence has guided the Modi community for centuries. According to tradition, the Modh community originated from Modhera, a town in Mehsana district, North Gujarat, and Modheshwari Mata has been their guardian deity ever since. Her blessings are sought at every important occasion, from births and weddings to business ventures and community milestones.
Every year, SKJMS organises a sacred Yatra (pilgrimage) to Modhera, drawing hundreds of community families together in devotion. The Yatra is one of the most anticipated events in the community calendar: a journey of faith, fellowship, and gratitude to our beloved Mata.
Religious programs dedicated to Modheshwari Mata are also held regularly at Shri Modheshwari Sankul, Pethapur, especially during Navratri, which is celebrated with great devotion and community participation.

Community Roots — The Patanwala Modi
Over 140 years ago, the Modi families of the Kantha region began holding organised gatherings at Modhera as the Patanwala Modi — one of the largest Modi community organisations in Gujarat at the time. They addressed transportation difficulties, economic hardships, and social issues, creating a foundation of community solidarity.

First Chapter Closes
After more than eleven years of active community service, the original organisation concluded its formal activities. The spirit of unity, however, remained alive in the hearts of community members across the Kantha region.

Revival Begins
Active community members from over 100 villages across the Kantha region came together, holding 99 meetings over several years to rebuild the samaj. Their tireless efforts laid the groundwork for a renewed and stronger organisation.

SKJMS Formally Established
In November 1975 (Vikram Samvat 2031), Shri Kantha Jilla Modi Samaj was formally established by seven dedicated pioneers who gave the community its enduring foundation.

SKJMS represents 22distinct divisions (vibhags) of the Kantha region, each a unique part of our community's identity. When the samaj was first established in 1975, it was built on the foundation of 15 original vibhags — today that number has grown to 22, reflecting the community's continued expansion and unity.
